The 1992 movie titled "The Player" is about a studio executive being blackmailed by a movie screenwriter. When producer Griffin Mill (Tim Robbins) is certain that the anonymous threats he's been receiving are the actions of David Kahane (Vincent D'Onofrio), Griffin tries to fix things over cocktails. Instead, Griffin ends up murdering the aspiring screenwriter and courting the dead man's girlfriend (Greta Scacchi). As police investigate, Griffin concentrates on a prestigious film that might reinvigorate his career. But he soon learns that David's demise hasn't been forgotten by key people in Hollywood, CA.

"The Player" is a satirical black comedy that was directed by Robert Altman and written by Michael Tolkin. It is based on Tolkin's own 1988 novel with the same name.
