The first feature-length film directed by the American film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and professor Spike Lee (b. 1957) was "She's Gotta Have It" (1986). The film, an American black-and-white comedy-drama, besides being directed by Lee, was also written, produced, and edited by him. Filmed on a small budget, this is a movie that earned positive reviews and launched Lee's professional career in the film industry. Lee was able to create the production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, which has produced more than 35 films since 1983.
