November is the eleventh month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars, the fourth and last of four months to have a length of 30 days.

November was the ninth month of the calendar of Romulus circa 750 BC (Before Christ, a calendar era based on the traditionally reckoned year of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth). November retained its name (from the Latin "novem" meaning "nine") when January and February were added to the Roman calendar.

Before Julian calendar Ancien Roman year began on the 1st of March, therefore: September- from “septem” (seven) October - from “octo” ( eight) November - from “nove” (nine) December - from “decem” ( ten)

Sergey Boev, no. The calendar started with January (the door/window to the new year, named for Janus). July and August were the later additions, from Julius and Augustus Caesar respectively.

It was July (for Julius Caeser) and August (For Augustus Caeser) that were added to the Roman calendar, not January and February.

David Roy, sorry, but that is not correct. There were 10 months starting with Martius, Aprilis (March, April, etc.). ianuarius and Februarius were added to synch the calendar closer to the solar year.

David Roy, the name January was given to the first month as you say, for Janus. He was a god in the religion of the ancient Romans. He had two faces, so he could look back over the year just gone, and forward to the new year simultaneously.
