Which number is aluminum on the periodic table?
Aluminium (aluminum in American and Canadian English) is a chemical element with the symbol Al and atomic number 13. Aluminium has a density lower than those of other common metals, at approximately one third that of steel. It has a great affinity towards oxygen, and forms a protective layer of oxide on the surface when exposed to air. Aluminium visually resembles silver, both in its color and in its great ability to reflect light.

Karin Johansson, Not sure of what your point is, but both the spellings and the pronunciations are deemed correct, depending upon which side of the ocean you are (or maybe where you learned what they were). There are many differences, but they shouldn't be points of contention. The English language has naturally evolved differently in the various places that is used (e.g. England, United States, Australia). The important thing is that it be used correctly in those areas. Maybe the last point that Joris van Pelt made, that Sir Davy himself might have contributed to the confusion, is correct?

A simpler question would have been Hydrogen or Helium, which I think most people would have known.

Joris van Pelt, I worked on and around the stuff for three years and 47 years later, I still can't pronounce it, although I can pronounce much more complex words.

Joris van Pelt, I have essentially only been in the U.S. and have heard it pronounced both ways, although far more often as aluminum.
