Although many people use the word "rodent" to cover any small mammal, rodents are actually a distinct albeit large group of interrelated animals, some of which can grow quite large. They all have two upper and two lower incisors adapted for gnawing, which grow continuously for the entire life of the animal. Weasels, although they are small and have a low-set body frame commonly associated with rodents, are members of the Order Carnivora, and are more closely related to dogs and cats than they are to rodents.

Yes, ferrets and weasels are closely related. Both have well-developed canine teeth (fangs) and molars designed for slicing flesh. Rodents don't have canine teeth and actually have an empty space where these teeth would normally be.

William Laughlin Carnassial teeth are modified molars (and in the case of carnivorans premolars) which are adapted to allow for the shearing (rather than tearing) of flesh to permit the more efficient consumption of meat.So molars don't only grind.

Terry Lee, A rodent is a mammal. Rodents bear live young, have hair/fur, and, of course, have mammary glands. You knew that part. There are different divisions of mammals, even dolphins and other types of whales are mammals. Have a great day! Thank you, Christine, James's wife

Keith Williamson, porcupines are definitely NOT marsupials - they are rodents. Do some research before posting idiotic statements. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
