Spencer Tracy (April 1900, Milwaukee, WI—June 1967, Beverly Hills, CA) was an American actor. He was known for his natural performing style and versatility. One of the major stars of Hollywood's Golden Age, Tracy was the first actor to win two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor from nine nominations.

"Mutiny on the Bounty", a 1935 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MG) drama film was directed by Frank Lloyd and stars Charles Laughton as Captain Bligh and Clark Gable as Fletcher Christian. Feature roles are played by Franchot Tone, Herbert Mundin, Eddie Quillan, Dudley Digges, Donald Crisp, Henry Stephenson, Francis Lister, and Spring Byington. The actor Spencer Tracy had nothing to do with the filming or making of this motion picture.

The screen play was based on the 1932 novel "Mutiny on the Bounty" by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. Despite historical inaccuracies, the film was a huge box office success, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1935 and one of MGM's biggest hits of the 1930s. The film received a leading eight nominations at the 8th Academy Awards, winning only Best Picture.

Along with the stars Gable and Laughton, Tone was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Midshipman Roger Byam in the film "Mutiny on the Bounty", making it the only film to have three simultaneous Best Actor nominations, and leading to the creation of the Best Supporting Actor category.
