Clare Taylor (born 1965) has represented England in both the football and cricket World Cups, playing in the final of the latter at the so-called "Home of Cricket", Lords, in London, in 1995.

Her original preference was for football, and as a child she answered an advertisement in a magazine placed by the Women's Football Association. She made her international debut against Germany in 1990 (England lost!). She turned down the chance to play for Doncaster Belles, then one of the leading lights in Women's Football to concentrate on Liverpool, then relative newcomers.

But she was also a hugely talented cricketer, and when she was dropped by the England soccer team, turned her attention to that, and was equally successful. In those days, women's professional sport was still in its infancy, and she worked for the Royal Mail throughout her career.

Denis Compton and Ian Botham did play professional soccer, but only at club level (Arsenal and Scunthorpe United respectively) and Rachel Heyhoe-Flint was a hockey international as well as playing cricket.
