Which of these characters is represented in a gargoyle at Washington National Cathedral?

Like so many religious buildings, the construction of the Washington National Cathedral in the US capital took a considerable period of time. Work began in 1907, and was finally completed in 1990, when President George Bush senior ceremonially laid the final finial.

During the 1980s, a competition was held to spread interest in the cathedral amongst the nation's children by asking them to suggest designs for the carvings. A boy named Christopher Rader won the third prize with his proposal for the representation of the iconic figure from "Star Wars" (the other prizes were for a girl with pigtails and a man with an umbrella).

The actual work was a collaboration between Jay Hall Carpenter and Patrick Plunkett. It is difficult to see without the aid of binoculars!
