Which of these cities was the scene for the assassination of WWII Nazi German official Reinhard Heydrich?
Reinhard Heydrich (1904-1942) was a high-ranking leader and member of the German Schutzstaffel (SS), a paramilitary force and instrument of terror of the Nazi Party in Germany and their occupied territories in years prior to and during World War II. He was chief of the Reich Main Security Office (including the Gestapo) and other intelligence organizations. He was the top organizer for the deportation and genocide of all Jews in German-occupied Europe. Many historians regard Heydrich as the darkest figure within the Nazi regime.
While in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and traveling to work in his Mercedes convertible, he was attacked by members of the Czech army-in-exile on 27 May 1942. The attack was mostly as retribution for his brutality. Reinhard Heydrich died of his injuries on 4 June 1942. The attack took place after preparation and training by British Special Operations and with the approval of the Czechoslovak government-in-exile. This was the only government-sponsored assassination of a senior Nazi leader during the Second World War. His death led to a wave of reprisals by SS troops, including the destruction of villages and the mass killing of civilians.
