The Battle of Berlin is an event that did not happen in the year 1942. The Battle of Berlin (April 16–May 2, 1945; 2 weeks and 2 days) was one of the last battles of the Second World War in Europe. It was a Soviet offensive that occurred on two fronts. Soviet army groups attacked Berlin from the east and south, while a third overran German forces positioned north of Berlin. This was a battle that resulted in the surrender of the German army and the death of Adolf Hitler (by suicide). It was a resounding victory for the Soviet Union and the Allies. The battle however took its toll on both sides. Around 81,000 Soviet Union soldiers were killed and another 280,000 were wounded.

The Battle of Berlin truly marked the end of World War II in Europe and the end of Nazi Germany.

The Bataan Death March, the Battle of Midway, and the Battle of Stalingrad all occurred in the year 1942. Respectively, the Bataan Death March (April 1942) was a forced march of 70,000 US and Filipino prisoners of war (WWII) captured by the Japanese in the Philippines. The Battle of Midway concerns the US Navy's decisive victory in an air-sea battle (June 3-6, 1942). It was the successful defense of the major base located at Midway Island; it dashed Japan's hopes of neutralizing the US as a naval power. It turned the tide of WWII in the Pacific. The Battle of Stalingrad (July 17, 1942–February 2, 1943), involved the total Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad, Russia, U.S.S.R. during WWII.
