The 1980 film "Urban Cowboy", a movie where a West Texas farm boy goes to the big city, rides a mechanical bull, meets his future wife, and encounters the antagonism of an ex-con, doesn't include any scene where key characters dance a tango.

In this film, after moving to Pasadena, Texas, country boy Bud Davis (John Travolta) starts hanging around a bar called Gilley's. There he falls in love with Sissy (Debra Winger), a cowgirl who believes the sexes are equal. They eventually marry, but their relationship is turbulent due to Bud's traditional view of gender roles. Bud becomes jealous over a rival, Wes (Scott Glenn). This leads to a separation in the marriage. Bud attempts to win Sissy back by triumphing at Gilley's mechanical bull-riding competition.

"Urban Cowboy" was directed by James Bridges; it was produced by Irving Azoff, Robert Evans, and C. O. Erickson. The film's screenplay was adapted by Aaron Latham and Bridges from an article with the same name by Latham in 'Esquire Magazine'.

In the 1992 "Scent of a Woman", a blind Frank (Al Pacino) dances the classical Argentinian tango “Por una cabeza” with Donna (Gabrielle Anwar). Next, "Moulin Rouge!" (2001) has El tango de Roxanne, which appears as an actual song mix of The Police’s “Roxanne” with Mariano Mores’ classic tango “Tanguera”. In "Take the Lead" (2006), it concerns open-mouthed apathetic students watching a super sensual dance, “Así se baila el tango”, between Antonio Banderas and Katya Virshilas.
