Billy Joel's song "Just the Way You Are" is from his 5th studio album "The Stranger" (1977). It was released in September 1977 as the album's lead single. It became both Joel's first US Top 10 and UK Top 20 single (reaching No. 3 and No. 19 respectively). It was also Joel's first gold single in the US. The song topped the "Billboard" Easy Listening Chart for the entire month of January 1978. This song never became a hit song on the "Billboard" Hot 100 Chart.

Notwithstanding the song's performance on "Billboard" charts, "Just the Way You Are" did garner two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1979.

It is also an interest fact to note that Joel wrote this song about his first wife, Elizabeth. It was said to be a pure expression of unconditional love. He gave it to her as a birthday present. Sadly, after 9 years of marriage, Joel and Elizabeth (Elizabeth Ann Weber) divorced in 1982.
