Which plant is considered the "queen of flowers"?

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae, or the flower it bears.

The name is derived from the Latin "rosa" and the Greek "rhodon." Chloris, the goddess of flowers, crowned the rose as a queen of the flowers. Aphrodite presented a rose to her son Eros, the god of love. The rose became a symbol of love and desire. Eros gave the rose to Harpocrates, the god of silence, to induce him not to gossip about his mother's amorous indiscretions. Thus the rose also became the emblem of silence and secrecy. In the middle ages, a rose was suspended from the ceiling of a council chamber, pledging all present to secrecy, or sub rosa, "under the rose."

Often people may ask, which flower is the Queen of Flowers? Many think that it is the rose, however the Rose is actually the King of Flowers. If it is not the rose then what flower could it be? The Queen of Flowers is actually the orchid, It may come as surprise to some, but orchids actually deserve to be labeled as the Queen of Flowers, because not only do they look beautiful, but they also have medicinal value. Orchids are diverse and have a widespread family and there are around 27,500 different types of species which is more than any other flower. Many people grow them nowadays, whether it is in the garden, indoor or at an office desk. There is just something special about these orchids that differ from many flowers and some even have a nice fragrant smell.

I had a dandelion salad one time & it was very good. I wonder is Harpo got his name from Harpocrates -- The God of Silence. Thats prob why he never spoke.

Steve Tingle, I have eaten dandelion greens before my Gran cooked them for me. I honestly think all these flowers are for the bees and us. All are medicinal in different ways.. even the weed that drives landscapers nuts that was brought to America by an Irish Lady for it's many uses

Actually as a useful plant Dandelion is tops, but like all queens (bees etc) it is the hard working drone, all parts are edible to humans, some with good herbal side effects, and at this time of year it is one of the first pollen bearing to flower for the bees. Most of the others are good only for the human eye, though Chamomile makes a good tisane.

Based on Google: The King is either Peonies or the Rose. If you google "Queen", it's always Rose. If you google King and Queen of Flowers, It's Rose, but sometimes it's also the Queen. No mention of the Orchid. Obviously the answer is more personal choice than fact.
