Which President launched Project Head Start preschool as part of the War on Poverty?

While JFK began the work of the War on Poverty, Lyndon Johnson was the President who kept the ball rolling after Kennedy's assassination, and in 1965, the first summer Head Start programs were launched.

War on poverty was unofficial name of a legislation aimed to decrease the rate of national poverty of that times.

daddy jim, Not true. The federal government spends about $1.2 trillion a year on defense, including the Departments of Defense, State, and Veterans Affairs. Governments spend $0.5 trillion on welfare programs other than Medicaid.

I remember that. I did not like LBJ but I was in Washington D.C. as a Navy Wave n 1966-67 and took a tour of the white house when he was president. I could serve my country but I could not vote until i turned 21 in 0ct 1967.
