In 1971, Barry Manilow wrote and popularized the State Farm Insurance jingle — “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”. State Farm executives, based in Bloomington, IN, now routinely says, "This jingle clearly expresses our 94-year-old insurance company brand. Being a good neighbor has been and always will be part of State Farm's DNA."

A jingle is defined as a short song or slogan that's used mostly for advertising. It's a way to quickly call to mind a product, service, or company. State Farm's iconic jingle has transformed the insurance company's corporate values for the better. In 2018, State Farm started a program called Neighborhood of Good, an entire website that makes finding volunteer work super easy. They have also formed formal partnerships with notable organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross.

Barry Manilow (b. Barry Alan Pincus in Brooklyn, NY, in 1943) attended the Juilliard School in New York City before he started writing music for TV and advertising purposes. In the 1970s, Manilow's voice was heard singing "You Deserve A Break Today" on ads for McDonald's. His big break came when he teamed up with Bette Midler for a nightclub act, leading to solo hits like "Mandy" (1974), "I Write the Songs" (1975) and "Can't Smile Without You" (1978). He made the whole world sing with the hit "Copacabana (At the Copa)" (1978).

His popularity declined in the 1980s and ’90s. In the 21st century, his career experienced a big resurgence.
