Which state is known as "The Copper State"?

As a kid I remember the Kenecot copper mines around Tucson. We used to go there at night to watch them pour the firey hot slag down the mountain. It was like fireworks.

Nicole Toma-Tolman, I would never judge picturesque by a cityscape and Phoenix has grown into a "city". Arizona does have picturesque sites.

Arizona is the Grand Canyon State. Never heard of it referred to as the copper state although it is known for the three C's which are Copper, Cattle and Cotton.

I went to the Kenecot copper mine in Brigham, UT. and watch them pour the slag at night at the smelter in Tooele. Loading copper at the mine and processing plant above Tuscon was cool as you drove past that crazy glass habitat that failed. Beautiful Apache ladies working on the loading dock. donnadimariano, The pit at Brigham is the largest in the world[at east in 56'] and from the viewing area they directed our attention to a area of the pit where they said they were going to set off 2 million pounds of TNT. Pit is so big it looked like someone had spit on the ground.

Visted Tucson once and there were small blueish rocks everywhere. They contain copper.

I lived in Arizona. It's not picturesque. I love the mountains and desert and always will... but Phonix, where I lived, was muddy or dirty, depending on the weather, and always smelled like cows due to the jillions of dairy farms.

Had it narrowed down to Arizona or Montana. After that, it was a guess, but was leaning towards Arizona. Glad to know I was right.
