The U.S. TV game host who wrote the lyrics to the 1968 hit song 'Naturally Stoned' released by 'The Avant-Garde' was Chuck Woolery. The group 'The Avant-Garde' was an American pop group formed by Woolery and Elkin "Bubba" Fowler in 1967. They released three singles on Columbia Records in 1967 and 1968. "Naturally Stoned" was a solid hit song that reached No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968.

Chuck Woolery was born and named Charles Herbert Woolery in March 1941 in Ashland, Kentucky. During his life, he has worked as a musician, talk show host, and TV game show host. Once he graduated from high school, he served for two years in the U.S. Navy.

Starting in the early 1960s, Woolery sang and played the bass fiddle with a trio group called 'The Bordermen'. He next sang in the duo, 'The Avant-Garde'. In the 1970s and 1980s, he became involved with professional movie acting and TV hosting. He is now best known as the original host of "Wheel of Fortune" (1975–1981), the original incarnation of "Love Connection" (1983–1994), "Scrabble" (1984–1990, and 1993), "Greed" on Fox from 1999 to 2000, and "Lingo" on the Game Show Network (GSN) from 2002–2007.
