Andrew Johnson was the only U.S. President who never went to school; he was self-taught. President Johnson was the 17th president of the United States. He was born on December 29, 1808, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and he died at the age of 66 on July 31, 1875 in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was Abraham Lincoln's vice-president, and became president after Lincoln was assassinated in 1865. Many historians rank Johnson among the worst American presidents for his actions during the U.S. Reconstruction Era (1865 - 1877).
