The U.S. president who was known as 'the Little Magician' was Martin Van Buren. On December 7, 1836, Martin Van Buren is elected the 8th President of the United States. Martin Van Buren stood about 5 feet 6 inches tall. One of his nicknames was 'the Little Magician'; his enemies also referred to him as "the Fox" for his sly political maneuvers. During his political career, he became a main founder of the Democratic Party.

Van Buren was born and named Maarten Van Buren on December 5, 1782 in Kinderhook, New York, USA. He lived for 79 years and died on July 24, 1862 in the place where he was born. His cause of death was bronchial asthma and heart failure. His final resting place is the Kinderhook Reformed Church Cemetery in New York.
