Which U.S. state has the most lakes?
Minnesota, the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” does not have the most lakes within the USA.
Alaska has the most lakes in the US, with about 3,197 officially named natural lakes and 3 million unnamed natural lakes.
Minnesota only has the most named lakes with about 15,291 natural lakes, 11,824 of which are greater than 10 acres. Minnesota has about 2.6 million acres of lakes.
Wisconsin has the third-highest number of lakes with 15,074, just behind Minnesota. Only 6,044 of Wisconsin’s lakes are named.

It looks like the old, pre-Alaska slogan of Land of 10,000 Lakes has had a lingering effect in attention to its once leading position, and it looks like Michigan may have taken some that notoriety away due to the fact that it's nearby and starts with an M.

Didn't know but as I've had this before had to try and remember from all the other American questions we get, but managed to get it right.

My original guess was to go with "Land of 10,000 lakes but it didn't work out so my second guess was to go with the largest state in the U.S. It worked out.
