Duct tape (also known as Duck Tape) can be used for far more than repairing a sneaker or fixing the garden hose. The people of Avon, Ohio, which bills itself as the “Duct Tape Capital of the World,” know this better than anyone. The city is where the brand of duct tape known as “Duck Tape” is headquartered.

The annual three-day Avon Heritage Duck Tape Festival is traditionally held on Father's Day weekend. Both locals and tourists gather for the sticky fun; the event attracts approximately 50,000 duct tape fanatics to the town of approximately 22,000, each year.

Festival-goers enjoy fair rides, live music, the prerequisite carnival foods, a duct tape fashion show, and a themed parade with floats built completely out of (you guessed it) duct tape. ShurTech, the local supplier of Duck Brand tape, donates 60 rolls to each parade participant to decorate their float; the parade winner receives $1,000.

The festival also features life-size Duck Tape sculptures, often created by art students from the University of Cincinnati, some 231 miles (372 km) away.

Visitors are encouraged to join right in and make duct tape hats, outfits, or props in the spirit of duct tape celebration.
