The Barack Obama Presidential Center is a planned presidential library to be hosted by the University of Chicago and located in Jackson Park on the South Side of Chicago. Jackson Park is a 500-acre (2km2) park located in the Hyde Park and Woodlawn communities, bordering Lake Michigan. It is named for the 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson.

Barack Hussein Obama II (born 1961) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2917. He was a member of the Democratic Party and the first African-American President. He previously served as a U.S. Senator from Illinois from 2005 to 2008 and as an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004.

Currently, the presidential library system is a nationwide network of 13 libraries administered by the Office of Presidential Libraries, which is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. These are repositories for preserving and making available the papers, records, collections and other historical materials of every president of the United States from Herbert Hoover (31st president, 1929-1933) to George W. Bush (43rd president, 2001-2009). In addition to the library services, museum exhibitions covering the presidency are displayed.

The University of Chicago is a private research university founded in 1890. Its main campus is located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. In the fall of 2019, it enrolled 16,445 students in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
