Camp David, in Maryland, is the US President's retreat, and has also frequently been used for international negotiations, such as the Camp David Summit in 2000, when President Clinton hosted the leaders of Egypt and Israel.

In fact, Camp David is the third name it has held. When it opened in 1938, it was known as Hi-Catoctin. In the 1940s, FDR changed the name to "Shangri-La", drawing on the novel of that name by James Hilton.

It received its third, and present day name, in 1953, and it was chosen by President Dwight Eisenhower (1890-1969). It was the name of both his father and grandson, and his own middle name. Eisenhower himself held a cabinet meeting there when he was convalescing from a heart attack, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill convalesced there after suffering the same thing.

Eisenhower was also responsible for building a golf course at Camp David, which several of his successors have no doubt much appreciated!

Although, for security reasons, Camp David does not appear on official maps, satellite imaging make it fairly easy to locate.
