Which US state has the longest coastline?
The length of coastline of Alaska is 6,640 miles. The total US coastline is 12,479 miles. So Alaska's coastline makes up more than half the US total. Therefore, no other state came close in terms of length of coastline. For the record, the other states mentioned here have the following coastline: Florida 1,350 miles, California 840 miles, Hawaii 750 miles

Should have included Michigan. Michigan's shoreline, at 3,288 miles is "more than any other state except Alaska.

Jon Woolery, when I think coastline, I think ocean as well. I live in Alaska and the air is clean, the water bites your tongue because it's so cold but the wind in the Mat-Su valley is hurricane strength at times. It is wicked cold in winter when it's dark and windy. It is not for oldsters like myself.

Richard, Merriam-Webster's definitions of "shoreline" and "coastline" suggest the terms are interchangeable, whether the water be lake or ocean. Learn something new every day. Due to my advanced age, however, I get a pass to stick with shoreline for lake, coastline for ocean.
