George Clooney was added to the regular cast at the start of the 7th season of the August 1979—May 1988 US TV sitcom "The Facts of Life". This was done in an attempt to refresh the ratings of the show. Clooney was George Burnett, a handyman hired to rebuild 'Edna's Edibles', a store (business which Mrs. Garrett and the girls' ran) that had been gutted by fire. Later in time, George leaves his job at the hardware store to become a roadie for a pop singer named Cinnamon (portrayed by musician Stacey Q).

This series was created by Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon; it was developed by Howard Leeds, Ben Starr, and Jerry Mayer.
