Who carved Mount Rushmore?
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore (Lakota Sioux name: Six Grandfathers) near Keystone, South Dakota, in the United States. Sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum, Mount Rushmore features 60-foot (18 m) sculptures of the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865). The entire memorial covers 1,278.45 acres (2.00 sq mi; 5.17 km2) and is 5,725 feet (1,745 m) above sea level.

Hopefully the National Guard will guard this! The taking down of monuments--historical art--is sacrilege.

Actually, he died before it was finished. It's a spectacular place to visit and spend the day. The closing ceremonies to honor our military veterans and al active duty is fantastic to watch. The night we were there, 2 bus loads of children o active duty military were there. Those children were so proud of their parents. It was an honor to watch.

Jim Adams, other carvers did. The Borglums were afraid that they would be taking Klan money if they took Commission on Stone Mountain.

In 1979, President Carter declared all soldiers who fought for the Confederacy were defending freedom of choice, which is still defending what America stands for, and therefore were American soldiers. Besides, without the war, there would have been no Emancipation!

It's not sacrilege to take monuments down when they glorify traitors to the USA. Southern generals fought AGAINST the USA for a system that relied on slavery to survive. Why would we put those men on pedestals. What they stood for is the true sacrilege!

FYI...Borglum was born in Idaho Territory to a Mormon family and died in 1941

gclef, Borglum and his son also worked on the Carving. He was meticulous in placing dynamite and finishing with a jackhammer. Usually very safe conditions.
