Who created the Zippo lighter?
American George G. Blaisdell created and sold the first Zippo lighter in early 1933. Mr. Blaisdell was inspired by an Austrian cigarette lighter that was similar in design to the Zippo. This lighter got its name because Blaisdell liked the word zippo, and it was easy to remember. The Zippo lighter obtained a patent in 1936. Since its inception Zippo lighters have been exclusively produced in the United States.

I guessed it was not Zippo Marx. Best lighters IMHO unless you over-filled them, put them in your pocket, and had lighter fluid run down your leg. Ouch! It burned even if not afire.

Seemed odd to use a cheap plastic Bic Lighter as a photo image. Thousands of quality Zippo lighter images out there. George is rolling in his grave.

I doubt an inanimate object "obtained a patent in 1936." I imagine George G. Blaisdell obtained a patent for his lighter in 1936.
