"Lorenzo's Oil" is a 1992 American drama film directed and co-written by George Miller.

It is based on the true story of Augusto and Michaela Odone, parents who search for a cure for their son Lorenzo's adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), leading to the development of Lorenzo's oil.

The film stars Nick Nolte as Augusto Odone, Susan Sarandon as Michaela Odone, Zack O'Malley Greenburg as Lorenzo Odone and Peter Ustinov as Professor Gus Nikolais.

Though it was a box office disappointment, grossing $7.2 million against its $30 million budget, the film was generally well received by critics and garnered two nominations at the 65th "Academy Awards" ("Best Actress" - Susan Sarandon and

"Best Screenplay – Written Directly for the Screen".

George Miller (born 3 March 1945) is an Australian filmmaker. Over the course of four decades he has received critical and popular success, and is widely known for creating and directing every film in the "Mad Max" franchise starting in 1979, including two entries which are considered two of the greatest action films of all time according to "Metacritic". He has earned numerous accolades including an "Academy Award" from six nominations in five different categories.
