"Alien" is a 1979 British-American science-fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. The film tells the story of the crew of the fictitious spaceship 'Nostromo' and their spontaneous encounter with the eponymous Alien, an aggressive, man-eating extraterrestrial that breeds within human hosts. The Alien manages to gain access to the ship and begins to eliminate the crew members one by one. The film stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto.

Sir Ridley Scott (born 30 November 1937) is an English filmmaker. Following his commercial breakthrough in 1979 with the science fiction horror film "Alien", further works include the neo-noir dystopian film "Blade Runner", the road adventure film "Thelma & Louise", the historical drama "Gladiator" (which won the Academy Award for Best Picture) and the science fiction film "The Martian".
