It was Sammy Sosa who hit over 60 home runs in a season for the Chicago Cubs. Samuel Kelvin Peralta Sosa, aka Sammy Sosa, was born on November 12, 1968 in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic. He is a Dominican American former Major League Baseball (MLB) professional baseball right fielder.

He started his career with the Texas Rangers; he became a member of the Chicago Cubs in 1992. This is when he truly became one of the game's best hitters. Sosa hit his 400th home run in his 1,354th game; it was his 5,273rd at-bat. He reached this milestone quicker than any player in National League history. In his final 10 years with the Cubs, he clubbed 479 home runs; the most in history over a 10-year span. He is one of nine players in MLB history to hit 600 career home runs.

Sosa retired from baseball in 2009. He made the announcement in the Dominican Republic and said that he was calmly looking forward to his induction into the U. S. National Baseball Hall of Fame since his statistics were up to par. In his last years in professional baseball, he played for the Baltimore Orioles (2005–2006) and Texas Rangers (2007–2009). As of 2019, he has not yet been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
