Who holds the record for the longest solo skateboarding journey?
The longest journey by skateboard was 12,159 km (7,555 miles) and was completed by Rob Thomson (New Zealand) starting in Leysin, Switzerland on 24 June 2007 and finishing in Shanghai, China, on 28 September 2008.
The attempt was part of a longer journey of 20,000 Kms which began by recumbant bike from Fukuoka, Japan, to Switzerland and included, sailing, rafts, and train around the world. Only the skateboarding part, which was the last part of the journey was counted for the record.
The first leg, on a long board, was from Leysin, Switzerland, to London. The second leg was across the USA from Keywest, Florida, to Los Angeles, California. During this leg Rob was gifted a second longboard to which he attached his old board as a 'trailer' to carry his heavy backpack. The third and final leg was across China from Urumqi to Shanghai.
Tony Hawk became the first person to achieve a '900' (two and a half airborne rotations) in California, USA on 27 June 1999. The so-called 900 (named after the fact that the skater spins two and a half rotations) is regarded as one of the most difficult tricks in vert skateboarding.
Gui Khury was the first person to achieve a skateboard '1080' on a vertical ramp in Curitiba, Brazil, on 8 May 2020 at the age of 11.
Steffen Köster achieved the highest skateboard hippy jump of 150.3 cm (59.17 in) on the set of 'Officially Amazing', in Frankfurt, Germany, 14 July 2013.
