Who in the Bible was the third and favorite son of King David?
Absalom, David's third son, by Maacah, was born at Hebron (2 Samuel 3:2). He was King David's favorite son. It was written that Absalom was the most handsome man in the kingdom and that he had a love of pomp and royal pretensions, which captivated his father and the hearts of others. Eventually, Absalom rebelled against his father and was killed during the Battle of Ephraim Wood.

Mark Johnson, what you are failing to recognize is that the Bible was THE book for western civilization. The Bible had been hand-copied (leading to human error as well as human editing) by monks for nearly 1500 years. Monks and priests, along with practitioners of the law, were the "educated" people --they knew how to read and write, requirements for their professions. It was only with the creation of the printing press that the Bible came to be in the hands of the common man, who up to that point had been quite illiterate. Most people only learned their Bible stories through the pictures in stone mosaics or the stained glass windows in the naves of their churches! Basically, the reason for the printing press was to print the Bible! Besides, the Bible is a fantastic read!The Protestant Reformation and the Enlightenment all came to be because of the printing of the Bible. The common people wanted to read that book for themselves. The Bible is was led to the literacy of the common man!

David Hudson, there are references to historical mass killings IN the Bible; but you are in error that there has ever been any killings based on the Bible. Any such purported killing(s) you might quote in response were not called for by anything encouraged in the Bible but a corrupted and/or distorted interpretation by the perpetrator.
