Who is Billy Milligan?

Sadly, mentally ill people do cause crimes they do not really mean to do. However, they need to be locked up pemanently for our protection and their own protection as well. They need to be in secure mental hospitals and not in prisons.

Lets me remind you old good movie “Primal Fear,” based on a novel by William Diehl, stars Richard Gere as a flamboyant Chicago defense attorney and Laura Linney, Edward Norton,who's one of my favorite actors.With good theoretical support and knovelage you can fake how many personality you want,but real fact that if in result of your action people got hurt or assaulted you still be responsible for your action no matter how many personalitys you claim you have .

I read The Mind of Billy Milligan for school. Interesting read. What he went through as a child would fracture anyone. But, having said that he should have been hosptialized.

I read the book too. I agree with Rachel, but he should have been in an institution BEFORE he committed the crimes. Don't tell me nobody knew he was insane !

I read a book about him, I believe in the 80's, because I was studying EEG (electrical brain activity) when he was interviewed, during his personality changes, his brain activity indicated he was actually a "different" person! It's an incredible read.

Your explanation did not go far enough. It implies that he got off Scott free when in fact he spent the next 10 years locked up in a secure mental institution. You should have also included what happened to him following his release from the mental hospital. Milligan was released in 1988 after a decade in mental hospitals, and discharged from the Ohio mental health system and the Ohio courts on August 1, 1991. In 1996 he lived in California where he owned Stormy Life Productions and was going to make a short film (which apparently has never been made). His location thereafter remained for a long time unknown, his former acquaintances having lost contact with him. Milligan died of cancer at a nursing home in Columbus, Ohio on December 12, 2014. He was 59

That's an incredible story about Billy Milligan. It reminds me of "Sybil" that was based on a true story, about a female with multiple personalities, who was portrayed on television by Actress Sally Field.
