Eugene Sandow (his birth name is Friedrich Muller) is considered to be the father of modern bodybuilding.

Born in 1867 in Prussia, he didn't only show incredible power, but also had aesthetic muscle structure comparable to the modern bodybuilding standards.

He first traveled Europe and later in the 1890's America - where he was billed as the "world's strongest man". It soon became apparent that as well as his feats of strength the audiences were just as interested in the physical appearance of Sandow. This led to the development of what is called a posing routine. Previously being called "muscle display performances."

Sandow was the bodybuilding superstar of his epoch; he developed the first bodybuilding magazine in history and was responsible for the working-out new bodybuilding equipment.
