James Garner was born as James Scott Bumgarner on the 7th of April, 1928. He was a well-known American actor and producer, also performing as a comedian and singer. His fruitful career spanned 50 years. James created many outstanding and unique characters, such as Bret Maverick and Jim Rockford (from the TV-series Meverick and The Rockford Files). Garner was also great on the screen, appearing in such motion pictures as The Great Escape (1963), The Americanization of Emily (1964), Grand Prix (1966), Murphy's Romance (1985) and others.

That's why that answer would be wrong... the picture was actually one of the other characters he played, Bret Maverick. He was born about 25 miles south of here in Norman, OK; we went to different schools together--his mother and my mother were both mothers. I'll never forget ole' whats-his-name!

They left out The Wild Bunch with Marlon Brando. He learned how to ride a motorcycle for the role but loved it so much within a year he was racing dirt bikes in the desert. Like another actually turned racer, Steve McQueen, Garner was an expert level racer. Then he went in to 4 wheels and the movie Grand Prix. Directors said he didn't need a stunt driver, an F1 car is gnarly beast to handle but Garner drove it. 👏👏👏
