Who is this?
This is a picture of Queen Elizabeth II during her WWII service.
It's difficult to visualize now, but this young and pretty woman known then as Princess Elizabeth was fully involved in Britain's struggle during WWII. In February 1945, the young princess joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service as an honorary second subaltern. Her service number was 230873. Being a princess, she trained as a driver and mechanic. That's worthy of respect!
We are impressed! And what about you? Please, tell us in the comments below!

rydaspyda, You have no idea. You couldn't do the hours of work that she does still and she is in her 90's. Hours of paperwork every day, sitting through lots of diplomatic procedures, speaking several languages to people on subjects she is probably bored stiff with, never any freedom to do anything that we take for granted. Always putting duty before anything personal, never being able to answer back about anything said about herself or her family, and she has never done anything personally to bring a bad name on her family or country (although other members of her family have). Best of all, she brings more money in to the UK in tourism than any other person in the world, including any President the USA has had in her life time. She also pays tax when she doesn't have to because she thinks it's the right thing to do.

My grandfather lived through 6 monarchs, I'm now retired and have only known one, But she has surpassed all her ancestors in the most difficult of times, a true icon, and irreplaceable. I hope I live as long and retain my faculties as long.

She did it at the time the Germans were bombing London nightly. She risked her life. That is being a real patriot.

vudu, I cannot understand why so many people get it wrong when it comes to numbers, like your good self she is Elizabeth the second, but Queen Elizabeth is thee one and only Elizabeth, who passed away in 1603.

wadowesi, well said. They were The Greatest Generation. My parents and all my Aunts and Uncles were part of them. What they endured, fought against and defeated was nothing less than pure evil and a threat to humanity itself. I consider myself truly honoured to be the son of a man who took part in the DDay landings, and was one of only 9 survivors from his entire battalion. He was a Hero, but never spoke of those days & remained totally humble all his life. I love and miss him very much.
