Flip Wilson was an African American comedian and actor. He was born on the 8th of December, 1933, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He had quite a hard childhood, as he grew up with many siblings, some of them being abandoned by his mother. At the age of 16 he joined the US Air Force. Flip's fellow personnel always enjoyed his stand-out humor, describing him as a person who usually "flipped out". That's where his stage name came from (he was born as Clerow Wilson).

Flip Wilson worked across the country as a comedian before garnering fame on TV programs. Wilson hosted his own weekly variety series, The Flip Wilson Show. The series earned Wilson a Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards.

In January 1972, Time magazine featured Wilson's image on its cover and named him "TV's first black superstar".

He died on the 25th of November, 1998.
