Gunga Din is the main character and the hero, in a poem of the same name, written by Rudyard Kipling in 1890.

Gunga Din is a water-bearer for a British soldier, who saves the soldier's life and subsequently is killed in doing so. The poem is narrated from the perspective of the British soldier, who at the end, acknowledges he treated Gunga Din poorly and self-reflects on how he treats people who aren't the same skin color.

At the end the soldier admits, "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din".
