Who played Barnaby Jones?
Buddy Ebsen (born Christian Ludolf Ebsen, Jr.; April 2, 1908 – July 6, 2003)The SAG-AFTRA records also show him as Frank "Buddy" Ebsen.
Originally a dancer, Ebsen began his long career in films in 1935, beginning with Jack Benny in Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935). He is probably best remembered for starring in the long-running CBS television sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies (1962–1971) as Jed Clampett. He also played the title character in the successful television detective drama Barnaby Jones (1973–1980), also on CBS. Ebsen had a cameo role in the 1993 film version of The Beverly Hillbillies, not as Jed Clampett, but as Barnaby Jones.

Thought Buddy was originally cast to play the Tin Man, but due to a severe allergic reaction to the silver body paint required, Ray Bolger stepped into the role, rather memorably.
I didn't realize that guard was Buddy Ebson until you mentioned that.
But thinking back on that scene, it sure looks like Buddy, even if it was not (I tend to believe you).

“The Beverly Hillbillies”. His father was former heavyweight champion, Max Baer. You can see Max Baer Sr in Humphrey Bogart’s last movie, “The Harder They Fall”. It was based on Budd Schulberg’s great book.
