'Mad Men' is an American period drama that aired between 2007 and 2015. Set in the 1960s, the show focuses on the fictional advertising agency Sterling Cooper on Madison Avenue in New York City. The agency is owned by Don Draper, but the show features characters representing several segments of society.

January Jones plays Betty Draper, the wife of Don and the mother of their three children, Sally, Bobby, and Eugene Scott. Before marrying Don, she worked as a model, but at the start of the series, they have been married for seven years. During the first two seasons, Betty becomes aware of her husband's womanizing and briefly separates from Don. After having a one-night stand, Betty reunites with Don after learning she is pregnant with their third child. By the start of Season 4, Betty has divorced Don and married Henry Francis. Later in the show (Season 7), Betty learns she has an advanced stage of lung cancer and is given six months to a year to live.
