The person who provides the alien's voice in the film "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) is Pat Welsh. Born Patricia Anderson Welsh (February 1915 – January 1995), this actress was an American film star who became popular and guile-fully known as the raspy voice of E.T. in the film "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial".

As a chain smoker, Welsh had a raspy voice that gave E.T. his trademark speech sound. Next, because of the way her voice sounded, she was hired to be the voice of Boushh in the film "Return of the Jedi" (1983).

Welsh lived to be 78 years old. The years of 1940–1983 were her active years as a professional actress. She died of pneumonia on January 26, 1995 in Green Valley, Arizona.
