Who started World War II?
World War II began in September 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland. Adolf Hitler wanted more land, especially in the east, to expand Germany according to the Nazi policy of lebensraum. After having gained both Austria and Czechoslovakia, Hitler was confident that he could again move east, this time acquiring Poland without having to fight Britain or France.

If you want to get technical, japan started the war with china in 1931...then, everything else started after that...(I.e. europe) 1933...

It was only a war when Germany invaded Poland. It became a "WORLD WAR" when France & England declared war on Germany for invading Poland.

I agree that it could be Poland and Japan if you want to really get technical... But then there is a difference between the definition of a war and a "WORLD WAR" that was the clue the word "World" changed the meaning of the question and the correct answer. Only when France and England declared war on Germany the "war" became a "World War".

W J Andy Andrews, only if you don't know history. Germany invaded Poland in 1939 causing other European nations to declare war on Germany. Italy didn't enter the war until June of 1940, only 18 months before the US was bombed by the Japanese. The war had been in full swing for nearly 5 years before Italy came in in the size of Germany.

Germany's economic situation after ww1 was terrible. Hitler was offering the people hope with expansion and prosperity. He also believed in a superior race. That excluded anyone less than perfect mentally and physically. Also anyone Jewish.
