Van Halen was an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1973. Credited with "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene", Van Halen was known for its live shows and for the virtuosic talent of its lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen.

Edward Lodewiijk Van Halen (1/26/1955-10/6/2020 Amsterdam, Netherlands) was regarded as one of the all-time greatest guitar players in rock history. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

The band's genres included, hard rock and pop rock. Some of their associated acts included, Chickenfoot and Planet Us.

Members of the band have included, Alex Van Halen (5/8/1953, Eddie's older brother) on drums, Sammy Hagar (10/13/1947, known as the Red Rocker) vocals from 1985-1996 and once again 2003-2005, David Lee Roth (10/10/1954) vocals for three stints, 1974-1985, 1996, and again from 2006-2020, Michael Anthony (6/20/1954) as bassist from 1974-2006, and Wolfgang Van Halen (3/16/1991) as bassist from 2006-2020, he is also the son of Eddie Van Halen and celebrity Valerie Bertinelli.

As of 3/2019, Van Halen is the 20th on the Recording Industry Association of America list of best-selling artist in the U.S. The single, "Jump" (1983) was one of the bands most successful singles, reaching number one on the US 'Billboard' Hot 100.

After a long bout of cancer, Eddie Van Halen passed in 2020. A month after the death of his father, Wolfgang announced the band was ending.
