Who was the first head of "Murder Inc.", a group of contract killers who acted in the USA from 1929 to 1941?
Lepke Buchalter (Louis “Lepke” Buchalter) was the head of Murder Inc., the group of contract killers who acted within the United States of America from 1929 to 1941. Murder, Inc., was headed by Lepke Buchalter and later by Albert "The Mad Hatter" Anastasia. Its services were available to any syndicate member located anywhere in the USA.
Murder, Inc. was believed to be responsible for between 400 and 1,000 contract killings, until the group was exposed in 1941 by former group member Abe "Kid Twist" Reles.
On March 4, 1944, Buchalter was executed in the electric chair in Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Ossining, New York. He had no final words. A few minutes before Buchalter's execution, his lieutenants Earl J. "Hymie" Weiss and Al Capone were also executed.
Louis "Lepke" Buchalter was buried at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Flushing, Queens, New York. Lepke died at the age of 47.
