William Howard Taft (born in 1857, died in 1930) was the 27th President of the United States (1909–1913) and the 10th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court (1921–1930). He became the only person in the national history to hold these two offices. After his death he also became the first president and first Supreme Court justice to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

This national cemetery is the only one in the country to hold the bodies of the participants of every war the US took part in. The earliest graves there are the causalities of the American Civil War. Some participants of the earlier American wars were also reinterred in the cemetery. JFK's gravesite is also located there. The cemetery was officially established in 1864, so it has been working for more than 150 years now.
