Who was the first woman to become US Secretary of State?

Madeleine Jana Korbel Albright (born Marie Jana Korbelová; May 15, 1937) is a Czech-born American politician and diplomat. She was the first woman to become the United States Secretary of State. President Bill Clinton nominated her on the 5th of December, 1996. The decision was passed by a solid vote. She took her oath on the 23rd of January, 1997.

Albright nowadays serves as the head of Albright Stonebridge Group. She holds PhD from Columbia University and works as a professor of International Relations in Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. Madeleine Albright has received Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.

It would have been nice to see Condoleezza mentioned. It's interesting they had enough choices for women who have held this position they were able to leave a name off. Seems like Hilary would have been the better name to have been left off since she's in the public eye, and so recently.

Acrew her, she said there is a special place in hell for woman who don't support other women, in a bid to boost Hilary Clinton's popularity. That mind set might have worked inthe 50's but is sadly telling of how out of touch these two woman are.

Corey Taylor, not a democrat woman! But Condoleezza Rice was a very good and intelligent woman, that’s a very accomplished person in her own right! She is a woman of great substance that would make a very good President also.
