Who was the President of the United States during the War of 1812?
James Madison was President during the War of 1812. Proponents for the annexation of Canada believed that the invasion would be a cake walk as Britain was heavily involved in Europe fighting Napoleon. This turned out to be a bad miscalculation. The.war became so unpopular it became known as Mr Madison's War. Things looked bleak when Napoleon was defeated and the British had additional resources to deal with the Americans. The British were just as unsuccessful in their invasion attempts. Although they raided and burned Washington D.C. , they were repelled at Baltimore, Plattsburgh, and New Orleans. The Treaty of Ghent ended the war on December 24, 1814.

I can only guess they sought to gain somehing given the circumstances. Native Americans were mostly allied with the Brish, although the Oneidas were on the Americn's side

Maybe I'm missing something, but I am certain that two world wars were fought on three overseas continents and except for Pearl Harbor, not in the Western Hemishpere at all.

Excuse my grammer, I was writing on the I phone w/o my glasses. I might add that the Duke of Wellington recommended peace when he looked at the map and realozed the Americans controlled the Great Lakes.

I disagree. It was a draw. Besides the Americans were getting better as time went in. Think of the Civil War, it took several attempts but the Siuth was crushed. An invasion of Canada in 1815, 1716 would eventually succeed.

Why would native Americans fight in a war between white foreigners who are stealing their land ?
