Who was the US President when the Louisiana Purchase was completed?
This land deal was considered the greatest bargain of the century, as it helped to double the size of the young country overnight! Thomas Jefferson was the US President in 1803 when the Louisiana Purchase was negotiated and finalized. Napoleon sold 828,000 square miles to the US for $15 million dollars. Napoleon was trying to fund a war against Great Britain.
