Sir William Connolly, CBE (Commander of the British Empire), (born 24 November 1942), is more commonly recognised as Billy Connolly, the internationally known Scottish stand-up comedian. He is also a musician, presenter, actor (featured in 39 films), playwright, author and artist. He is sometimes known, especially in his homeland, by the Scots nickname "The Big Yin" ("The Big One"). In 2017, Connolly was awarded a knighthood for his "services to entertainment and charity".

“Made in Scotland:….”, published in 2018, is his biographical account of the Scottish places and people that made him. It is a story prompted by an event just after receiving his knighthood. He was asked 'How does it feel to have achieved all this when you came from nothing?' His response was, “But I did come from something”.

So begins a tour through the Highlands, Lowlands and the Barrowlands (an area of Glasgow) on a quest to find out what that 'something' was and whether it is still there. Connolly’s tour is as much through reflections as it is through places. Key artefacts prompt reminiscences - the first pressing of a Hank Williams record (the first he ever owned), Landseer's “Monarch of the Glen”, a bottle of air that recreates the smell of the old Glasgow docks.

“Made in Scotland:…..” is Billy Connolly's personal account of the stuff that matters to him - family, love, sex, health, football, fishing, work, art, swearing, banjos, friends, going to the pub and good tea.
