It may seem that the spikes on the outside contradict the nature of a pineapple because if it is a fruit, it is meant be eaten, but how can it be eaten if it has spikes? So why does the pineapple have these thorns?

Pineapples that we buy in our local stores are not ripe. Animals that live near the place where pineapples grow are the ones that get to eat the ripe fruits, and ripe pineapples are soft and are easy to open. Only in this soft state the fruit is meant to be eaten. Because the fruit grows only in the tropical regions, if a ripe pineapple is picked, then during the transportation it will just become rotten.

Pineapples use thorns to protect the sweet insides until the fruit is ripe and ready.
